The ideal candidate will have:

  • Some working experience, for example through an internship, in the UK or European Parliament / MP’s office / MEP’s office / government department / European Commission DG or similar is essential;
  • Understanding of both the UK and EU political landscape required;
  • Keen interest in political affairs and in financial services advantageous;
  • Excellent English writing and editing skills;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Exceptional time management and the ability to work under pressure;
  • Foreign language skills are advantageous, but not essential.

Role Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and managing daily client deliverables.
  • Organising meetings and client calls; writing and circulating meeting agendas and taking notes and action points in client calls and meetings.
  • Monitoring the policy environment and media; including Hansard, Government and Opposition statements, Select Committee inquiries, think tank reports, newspapers, broadcasts, newswires, and blogs, for relevant opportunities for clients.
  • Providing political analysis on monitored policy/news as described above both in written form and verbally.
  • Keeping up to date with political and current affairs and flagging important developments to team and clients.
  • Preparing regular client reports and attending client meetings.
  • Drafting documents for clients such as letters to political stakeholders, policymaker biographies, policy briefings and stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Helping to develop public affairs plans and strategies.
  • Taking a proactive approach to networking to build new client connections.
  • Working as part of an account team to assist colleagues in developing new business proposals and assisting with new business pitches.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong interest in UK politics and the parliamentary process.
  • A minimum of 18 months’ public affairs agency experience.
  • Highly competent in all written communications.
  • Highly competent in verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to research and analyse.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Organisation and prioritisation.

Key role responsibilities:

  • Key support to Directors & Managing Director of our EU Public Affairs team, taking a lead role on Digital and Technology accounts.
  • Taking an active role in developing and winning new business opportunities; for example, by playing a key role in pitches and requests for proposal documents, identifying and converting prospective new business targets, and leading on various marketing activities.
  • Providing strategic counsel to clients, taking responsibility for managing successful account delivery.
  • Developing and managing strategic and creative public affairs campaigns (legislative and non-legislative).
  • Supporting the professional development of junior members of the team (e.g. Account Executives and Senior Account Executives).
  • Helping to develop Cicero’s external presence and marketing, particularly in the Tech & Digital sector.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Essential: 3-5 years’ experience in an EU Public Affairs consultancy, European institution, trade association or equivalent organisation.
  • Essential: Knowledge and experience of flagship digital files such as Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act.
  • Essential: Strong knowledge and experience of the EU legislative and policy landscape.
  • A “get-up-and-go”, self-starter attitude with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Commercially knowledgeable with proven new business involvement (for example pitch preparation and participation) is desirable.
  • Experience of developing and executing complex strategic EU public affairs campaigns.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proven management skills (with the desire to manage accounts and mentor junior members of the team on account best practice).
  • Excellent relationship building skills and a pre-existing network in the Digital & Tech sector.
  • The working language of the office is English, an additional EU language would be an asset.
