This map is an interactive tool visualising the data underpinning the BD Healthcare Resilience Barometer.
The Barometer explores the resilience and vulnerabilities of healthcare systems of 111 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The default view shows the overall resilience score of the 111 countries in the Healthcare Resilience Barometer.
The overall score is made up of 35 individual data indicators, averaged together across four categories: Population Indicators, Healthcare Expenditure, Health Outcomes, and Macro Factors.
Country scores will appear as you hover over the map – no need to click.
Browsing through the data: Navigating the drop-down menu in the top left corner allows you to look at scores by category or individual indicator.
You can find more information about some indicators by hovering over the sign.
Hiding and reopening the menu: The menu automatically closes when you click on the map. You can reopen it by clicking the switch button in the top left corner.
Interpreting the colours: A darker shade of colour always correlates with a higher score – please refer to the colour gradient on the left.
Countries shaded grey mean that there was no data available for that country.
Searching by location: Click on the location icon in the menu, start typing the name of the country you would like to look up, select from the drop-down suggestions and the country will flash up in purple on the map. Click on the country to view its assigned colour based on its score.
The indicators used in the Barometer are reported regularly by the World Health Organization, World Bank or IHME’s Global Burden of Disease study.
The Barometer scores were standardised on a 0-100 scale to allow for comparison between different measurements.
See the Appendix of the Healthcare Resilience Barometer report for a full methodology.

PLEASE NOTE: A darker shade of colour always correlates with a more positive score.
You can find more information on how to interpret the scores under ‘Instructions’ and by clicking on the Information outline button next to each indicator.
